A couple of weeks ago, Foot Mercato published some information about Ismaël Bennacer and an alleged interest from Manchester City in him.

It all stemmed from Pep Guardiola, who was said to be a big fan of the player, and it was reported the Cityzens’ manager was personally pushing for his club to make a move for the midfielder.

Not only that, but the French website said the Spaniard’s desire to manage the former Arsenal youngster went as far as him going out of his way to contact Bennacer’s entourage personally.

A week later, Le Buteur went completely the other way and reported that despite these claims, the Algerian international ‘wasn’t aware’ of the interest from both Manchester City and Real Madrid in his services, with the website saying this came from ‘official sources’.

Well, we don’t know who those were, but if RMC Sport in France are to be believed, then they were playing dumb, as the latest report on the matter suggests Guardiola has gone a step further.

Confirming what Foot Mercato wrote about Bennacer being one of the Manchester City manager’s priorities, the French outlet also claim he ‘called the player personally to explain his project to him’.

It’s stated the Premier League club ‘could prepare an offer in the briefest delays’ and overtake the competition, which includes Paris Saint-Germain.

RMC Sport also reveal Bennacer has a €50m release clause in his contract at Milan, but money won’t be the reason why he changes clubs if he decides to do so.

If the midfielder is to leave Italy, he wants ‘guarantees in terms of game time and will prioritise the sporting aspect’ of things.
