The clear number two at Aston Villa behind Emiliano Martínez, Robin Olsen doesn’t get to see the field often, but still gets called up to the Sweden national team.

On his arrival with the squad, the goalkeeper was immediately asked about his potential involvement in a party that took place after Malmö recently won the league title.

While the Aston Villa goalkeeper made it very clear to Fotbollskanalen that he was present during the festivities, he didn’t take part in them, as he was there on official business.

He explained: “I was involved in a corner. I am a co-owner of the restaurant they were at, so I helped the team. The party was very good, but I went home because we had a national team gathering.”

Then came the inevitable question about his future and a return to Sweden, since playing second fiddle to Martínez is hardly the most exciting job, and the local media were wondering whether he could be tempted to come back to Malmö.

He said: “It’s not just my decision and a lot will happen. I have a year and a half left on my contract at Aston Villa. That’s what I’m assuming at the moment.”

Therefore, unless something happens in the next few transfer windows, with clubs bidding for the Aston Villa back up goalkeeper, he is expected to stay at Villa Park until the summer 2025.

After that, however, the desire to return to his home country will likely be fulfilled.
