It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Matt Miazga, still contracted to Chelsea but on loan at Anderlecht in Belgium.
Sent to the Jupiler Pro League side to get the first-team football he wouldn’t at Stamford Bridge, the USA international has been a fairly regular feature under Vincent Kompany, as the club try and return to their former glories.
The Chelsea man has performed rather well, missing just three games so far this season, and he’s also enjoying life under the former Manchester City defender, whom he recently praised in an interview with De Zondag, relayed by Walfoot.
Learning a lot from Kompany, Miazga explained he ‘really likes working’ with his manager, which could also be key to what he does in the future.
Asked about that particular point as well, he said: “I belong to Chelsea but I’ve said I want more stability. In November, I was asked if I wanted to stay come the end of the season. I want to focus on the end of the campaign before talking about the rest. Qualifying for a European competition could influence my choice”.
As per the rules of the Jupiler Pro League, Anderlecht, who are currently fifth in the table, equal on points with fourth placed Oostende, would have to finish in the top four to stand a real chance of reaching Miazga’s goal before the table breaks into various smaller leagues for the playoffs.
With four games to go, there’s every chance of that happening, and the ball could be in the Chelsea loanee’s court, as he now needs to ensure his club pick up points where they can.
Any mistake could be crucial.
