Even if you don’t watch French football regularly, you’ll probably be aware of the name Boubacar Kamara.

The defender turned defensive midfielder has often been named on lists of most exciting prospects over the years, and now could be the time for him to finally leave Marseille.

The player has earned himself a reputation, to the extent where Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has taken notice, as reported in mid-March.

It was claimed by French journalist Romain Canuti that Kamara’s was a profile the Blues man ‘likes a lot’, having kept the name ‘in the back of his mind’ from his time as Paris Saint-Germain manager.

He knew he would never be able to convince the Marseille born versatile player to swap the south of France club for their arch rivals, but his new role at Chelsea changes that somewhat.

Either way, Kamara, in a press conference, made it clear he could leave this summer after 16 years at the club.

He said, relayed by RMC Sport: “I’d like to finish the season, there’s five games left. Then I’ll relax this summer and think about what’s next. What can convince me to stay? The sporting project. I’ve been a professional for four years, I’ve lived through pretty much everything here”.

Is he ready for a move abroad? He replied: “I don’t know since I’ve been here since I was very small. I’ve never felt this desire to leave, but I think I’m ready to go pretty much anywhere with what I’ve lived at Marseille”.

As for whether his club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League spot will help him decide, Kamara made it clear that wasn’t the case.

Either way, with a contract expiring in 2022, this would definitely be the best time for any interested parties to pounce, and that, based on previous reports, could very well include Chelsea and their manager Thomas Tuchel.
