Despite Raul Jimenez’s slow recovery from his head injury, there was some hope in Mexico that the Wolverhampton Wanderers striker would be able to feature in the Olympics this year.

The national team had been claiming they’ve been in touch with the Premier League side to talk about the player’s progress, and kept waiting for his comeback to happen as soon as possible.

However, Jimenez’s participation in the tournament has now been ruled out by Mexico manager Jaime Lozano.

Speaking to the local media this week, he talked about most players who have the chance of taking the centre-forward position, and claimed the Wolves star should be out of that competition.

“A year ago, Raul was on the radar for the great moment he was living. Now with what happened to him, he hasn’t participated and there’s also been talk that it’s difficult for the club to release him because they’re taking care of him so he stays in the best way,” said the manager (via AS).

Raul Jimenez has been called-up for Mexico’s recent international duties, but instead of being part of the matchday squad, he was only taking part as an experienced player who’s spending some time with them.

Now despite being training with Wolves, this is one more sign that the striker should only get back into action in the next season.
