Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has backed former boss Quique Setién for success at Barcelona.
Setién was named as the new Barcelona boss earlier this week after the club’s surprise decision to sack Ernesto Valverde.
The decision to appoint him has caused shock in some quarters, although some feel the manager’s style of play makes him an ideal fit at the Nou Camp.
Setién’s last job was at Real Betis, whom he led to sixth in La Liga and a place in the Europa League last season with his brand of attacking football.
Lo Celso was a part of that squad, managing 16 goals and six games under his leadership, the best form of his career to date.
It was his shining performances under Setién that led to his move to Tottenham this summer, and the Argentine is firmly of the belief he will be a success in his new job.
“We know he went to Barcelona,” the Tottenham man told Estadio Deportivo.
“We know he is a very good person. The way he treats the ball is a bit like Barcelona’s philosophy, how he raises approaches matches.
“I wish him well; he is prepared for this challenge.
“We know he has been doing a great job. It is a nice bet, a beautiful challenge for him. I do not doubt that he will do well.
“He is surrounded by very good people, and we know about the players that Barça has to get ahead.”
