Everton striker Cenk Tosun has spoken to TRT Spor about Andre Gomes’ injury and scoring his first Premier League goal of the season against Tottenham Hotspur.
The 28 year old, who went to console Gomes after the incident, said his Portuguese teammate will return soon, as covered by Sporx: “When I saw my friend over there, it was very hard for me. I nearly cried. But I tried to stay strong. I thought that I have to score a goal for Andre and did just that.
“He is a very strong guy both mentally and physically. I think he will return pretty strong in four months.”
Gomes is expected to be out of action for the foreseeable future with his ankle injury, but Everton confirmed earlier this week the surgery he undertook was a success.
Speaking about his own situation at Everton, Tosun said he was very happy to score his first Premier League goal of the season: “It was a huge relief. I am working very hard. I’m always trying to keep myself ready. Until then, I have to say it hasn’t been the best of seasons for me.
“But I have to be ready all the time. I want to wear the shirt and help my team in the remaining matches. I want to play as many games as I can.”
There has been recent speculation linking Tosun with a move away from Goodison Park, with clubs from Turkey, Spain and Italy reportedly taking an interest.
Tosun has played just four games for the Toffees this season and has yet to start for Marco Silva’s side. With Euro 2020 just around the corner the forward may have a decision to make in January.
