Johannes Hoff Thorup has insisted he wasn’t perturbed to see Jack Wilshere step up to replace him following his sacking earlier this month.

Tipsbladet have an interview with the former Norwich man today after he was sacked by Norwich on April 22nd.

The Danish coach was appointed in the summer but lasted less than a season at Carrow Road, with them currently 14th in the Championship and 22 points outside of the top six.

Indeed, they are currently closer to the relegation places than the top of the table, where Norwich had perhaps been hoping to compete when Hoff Thorup was appointed in the summer.

Wilshere was placed in temporary charge for the club’s remaining two games of the season, his first job, albeit temporary, since being appointed as a first-team coach in October. He had previously been manager of Arsenal’s U-18 team as he forges his way in management following his playing career.

The appointment by Norwich certainly might have raised some eyebrows given Wilshere had been working closely with Hoff Thorup in his backroom team at Norwich this season.

Tipsbladet asked if he saw it as a betrayal.

The Dane, though, has no problem with it, as he knew what Wilshere’s contract said on the matter and how that was a possibility.

“I knew Jack’s employment terms so I knew he would take the step up as head coach at some point, and we had also made a good plan with him,” he said.

“Had it been Glen who had taken over, I would probably have raised my eyebrows a little more than once, but not when it’s Jack.

“The premise to bring him in was his next step in his career, where he had to move on from Norwich or Glen and I had to move on from Norwich so he could become head coach.”
