Earlier this week, we covered claims made by SportExpressen that Brentford have showed serious interest in Malmö FF star Anel Ahmedhodžić. It was also explained the Bees ‘could place a bid’ to sign the centre-back in the winter market.
The 22-year-old’s development at Malmö saw him linked with a move away from the Swedish club in the last two windows, but a deal never materialised for various reasons.
Malmö have two more fixtures left this year and avoiding defeat against Halmstad on Saturday will see them clinch the title. The defender’s immediate focus is on helping his side achieve league success.
“If it’s my last match, it will be sad. I want to win the Swedish championship first and then I can think about all that later. If I were to guess [if he is closer to leaving now than in the last two windows]? Yes,” Sportbladet quoted him as saying.
With the recent reports linking him to the Bees, where Pontus Jansson is currently one of the main centre-backs, Ahmedhodžić was quizzed if he can play alongside the Swede at Brentford.
“(Laughs) I knew that question [about Brentford links] was coming. I saw it yesterday. He is a fantastic player and he was my role model in Malmö FF. He was the one I looked up to. It would be really huge,” the Bosnia and Herzegovina international explained.
“But I can answer all these questions after the match on Saturday. I will have answers. Better answers anyway, not so boring.”
When pressed if will it be a ‘yes’ on him playing alongside Jansson at the Premier League side, Ahmedhodžić stressed: “No, not so definitive. I get to be a little secretive.
“I have not really put so much focus on it but concentrated on winning the title. I really want to leave with a good ending. It would be great to do it at home [against Halmstad].”
This one looks like a Brentford transfer in the making.
