As Newcastle United travelled to Italy for their Champions League clash against AC Milan, they missed one of their most important players.

With a knee injury, Joelinton had already missed the Premier League match against Brentford at the weekend, and now stayed out of the squad which faced the Rossoneri.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe had a word with the Brazilian media after the match. Speaking to TNT Sports journalist Arthur Quezada, he was asked about the midfielder’s situation, and besides giving an update on his recovery, he highlighted the importance the player would have had at the San Siro.

“Yeah, Joe is a big player for us and has been for a number of months. Big, big personality. Big physical presence for us,” Howe told TNT Sports.

“We missed his ball winning skills in the middle of the pitch. But hopefully he’ll be back soon. I don’t think this is a serious injury. But it’s enough obviously to keep him out currently.”

Joelinton had started in all of Newcastle’s games this season so far, and it’s more than clear that Howe is anxiously waiting to have him back in the team.

Speaking of another Brazilian who plays in midfield, the coach also had some words about Bruno Guimarães, highlighting the 25-year-old’s performance against Milan and praising his deffensive efforts. You can check those quotes here.
