As things stand, Steven Alzate finds himself in a rather precarious situation at Brighton & Hove Albion during a loan at Standard Liège.
That’s because the midfielder is currently in Belgium until the end of the season, at which point his contract with the Seagulls is expected to come to an end.
It’s a situation the Brighton man has spoken to DH about, as he gave a lengthy interview to the Belgian outlet about his career to date and what will happen next.
One of the major talking points was his current stint at Standard Liège and his previous years at the Amex, which could come to an end this summer if the Premier League decide as much.
He explained: “Not knowing where you’re going to play next season can be disturbing. It’s my final year of contract at Brighton even if I have an option for an extra year that hasn’t been lifted yet. For now, I don’t know where I’ll be in the next few months, but the most important is that I play and feel well where I am.”
Since joining Brighton from Leyton Orient in 2017, the 25-year-old has made 51 appearances for the Seagulls, for whom he has scored three goals and picked up two assists.
He also spent last season on loan at Standard Liège, making this year his second stint with the Belgian side, where he has accumulated four goals and six assists in 36 appearances.
