Despite what the press will have you believe, N’Golo Kanté isn’t perfect. At least, he doesn’t see himself that way.
Getting a bit annoyed with all the ‘nice guy’ headlines, the Chelsea midfielder seemingly just wants to be left alone so he can get on with helping the Stamford Bridge club, where he’s currently playing a new(ish) role under Maurizio Sarri.
A bit more offensive, or box-to-box, than he was under Antonio Conte and Claudio Ranieri, the France international explained to RMC Sport what his manager was trying to do with the change in position.
He said: “The coach wants a very offensive team with a lot of pressing. I’m trying to bring what I can in that regard, in movement, with my runs behind the back of the defence. When I have the ball, it’s with my back to goal, laying it off well and accompanying the attacks.”
Still coming to terms with things, even if he did play that role a bit at Caen, as he admitted himself, Kanté believes he still has a lot of things to work on.
He continued: “I’m enjoying it because you need to be decisive and take part in attacks. I can improve on my reading of the game, making the right decision at the right time and apply myself a bit more technically.”
As for the rather negative words Maurizio Sarri had to say about him after Chelsea’s loss to Tottenham not so long ago, Kanté wasn’t exactly surprised to hear them, since he’d ‘already told him in the first training session after the game’.
He said: “It’s nothing serious. He told me how he wanted to see me play, what he wanted me to do and I think it’s useful going forward.”
