When Antony left Ajax for Manchester United on a €95m deal last summer, the Brazilian made big coverage of this transfer.
One of the reasons for that many stories is that his former club São Paulo would be making around €18m because of a percentage they had over a future move.
It turns out that the money made by the Tricolor has to do with the reason why Fulham recently failed to sign a player from them. That’s a story today explained by Globo Esporte.
The Brazilian outlet features a piece claiming that because of the profit made with Antony’s transfer to Manchester United, São Paulo felt no need to accept offers for several of their players in the past few months.
“When we had proposals for Welington, Pablo and Nestor, we held them because we were waiting for Antony’s income; if not, we would sell the three, there was no way,” Julio Casares told Globo Esporte.
The links between Fulham and Pablo Maia have been made by the Brazilian media since November last year, as for a January transfer.
Now São Paulo may not have needed the money back then, but we wonder if they’ll be able to hold him in the summer as well.
As for Antony, he has made 30 appearances for Manchester United, scored seven goals and assisted his teammates once.
