West Ham United have been handed something of a boost ahead of their Europa League clash with Lyon as Maxence Caqueret looks set to miss the game.
The Hammers are set to take on the French side in the quarter-finals of the Europa League on April 7th, with the first leg at the London Stadium.
They will head into the game full of confidence after seeing off Sevilla, the most successful side in the history of the competition, courtesy of a 2-0 win at home in the middle of March.
Lyon will be no pushovers, though, having seen off Portuguese giants Porto in the last round themselves courtesy of a 1-0 win away from home and a 1-1 draw in the second leg.
The Ligue 1 side boast a squad full of talent, including Caqueret, who has established himself as a key player in the heart of their midfield after rising from the B squad in 2018.
He’s not missed a single game for Lyon in all competitions this season, but L’Equipe report that record will be broken against West Ham.
According to their information, he has picked up a knee injury in training and will miss Sunday’s clash with Angers and ‘probably against West Ham’ as well.
The ‘exact nature’ of the injury isn’t yet known but will be soon, although the club have already started working on a ‘new approach’ to cover for his absence.
That would suggest the French side fear a long-term absence, a boost for David Moyes and co., who look set to face a side who’ve lost one of their key players, something we’re sure they’ll want to take advantage of.
