Fabian Schär starred for Newcastle United in their 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last week.

The Switzerland international, who is currently with the national team, got his name on the scoresheet in injury time at St James’ Park.

Blick interviewed the Newcastle player, and he talked about the clash against PSG and revealed that he’s “never experienced” such an atmosphere at St James’ Park.

The centre-back arrived at the Tyneside club from Deportivo La Coruña in 2018 and is thrilled with his spell with the Magpies.

Schär’s deal expires at the end of this season and Blick state Newcastle have an option to extend it for another year. He has hinted he wants a new contract from Eddie Howe’s side.

“Newcastle is my second home. Team, coach, club – I feel very comfortable. I really enjoy it and I hope that this journey continues,” Schär explained.

The 31-year-old didn’t make more than 24 appearances in the league until the end of the 2020/21 season and things improved for him after Howe arrived in November 2021. Since then, he has been a regular figure in Newcastle’s starting XI.

Blick are suggesting the manager is the main reason for his desire to extend his stay at Newcastle.

“You can take something out every day. He has a very good feeling for what every player needs individually,” the player added.
