With Arsenal struggling for form and coming off the back of two 3-0 defeats at the hands of Manchester City in the space of a week, some in France are starting to worry about Laurent Koscielny.

The Arsenal centre-back has, for a long time now, been considered a key part of Didier Deschamps’ squad, and with this World Cup likely to be the 32-year-old’s last chance at featuring in an international tournament, he definitely wants to go.

However, for Emmanuel Petit, Koscielny’s and Arsenal’s form are putting his chances of making the final squad at risk, especially when you take into account he’s competing with the likes of Samuel Umtiti, Kurt Zouma, Raphael Varane and Presnel Kimpembe for a spot.

Speaking on SFR Sport, he said: “He’s in danger (of not featuring) because he’s not the same player this season, much like the team that’s been in decline for years now, but I can’t see his competitive spirit, his leadership.

“He was always the first one to shout, make big tackles. Is he just dismayed at what’s going on with the team for some time? Probably. I think he’s also disappointed by some of the signings, and maybe he’s feeling he’s regressing, hence him saying this will be his last tournament with France”.

With Arsenal currently 6th in the Premier League, eight points off Chelsea, it’s hard to see Arsène Wenger getting his team into the Champions League spots for next season.

However, with games against Brighton, Watford, Newcastle, Southampton and Stoke coming up, now is the time to turn things around, and Koscielny will also need to step up.
