Kevin De Bruyne has been out of action for Manchester City in the last three games due to a hamstring injury.
Life without the Belgian hasn’t been great for City, who have failed to win their last two games in the Premier League, but they did manage to beat Slovan Bratislava convincingly in the Champions League this week.
With the international break coming up, Manchester City fans will probably prefer De Bruyne to wrapped up in cottonwool at home rather than playing for Belgium.
National team boss Domenico Tedesco has now confirmed that the playmaker remains injured, revealing details of a conversation with the Citizens’ star.
He said, as relayed by RTL: “I had a long telephone talk with Kevin. First of all, he’s injured, he has some problems.
“But in general, he is very motivated to continue to be with us and of course, to play the World Cup. He just asked me to be out for this camp and for the Nations League, to take care of his body.”
Tedesco mentioned repeatedly that the ex-Wolfsburg man wants to take care of his body and this suggests that De Bruyne, something the player has been hinting at himself. He seems quite keen on managing his game time and on prioritising when he wants to play.
That is the sign of a mature player who cares about how the next few years of his career are going to pan out.
