Hector Bellerin has been flirting with a move to Barcelona. Of course, some Arsenal fans will protest against that viewpoint, but it’s pretty clear. Interviews with Catalan newspapers, setting the tone about a return home, not being as expertly dismissive of a move as he once was.
But just because he quite fancies it, doesn’t mean he’ll pull a full Cesc Fabregas. The Catalan media may wish him to do that but even in the most fan-sounding articles, and even in articles claiming he’ll copy Cesc’s efforts to some degree, it’s often pointed out he’s unlikely to go quite as far as the now Chelsea player.
This week brought claims from Barcelona, presented as revelations, that Bellerin’s family have returned to the city. That was already well known, the player himself has spoken about it, and how difficult it is. It’s not been something that’s happened this summer as part of planning for a Barcelona transfer.
Bellerin is also said to have bought a house in the area, which would make sense if his family have returned, he’s hardly going to put them up in an Air B&B.
Marca, a more Madrid leaning newspaper, wade in on Wednesday, and say: ‘Although the fullback is more than willing to return to the club where he took his first steps, the reality is that doesn’t include him being willing to put transfer pressure on Arsenal. The fact that his family has moved back to Barcelona has nothing to do with his possible move.’
And that is pretty much that. Unless Bellerin’s desire to be with his family sees a peak as the new season gets closer, and/or Barcelona slap a serious offer in, nothing is happening.
