Sheffield United made an approach for Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos this summer, according to claims from Portugal.
Newspaper A Bola is the one reporting the Blades were interested in the 26-year-old, but their attempt to sign him didn’t go very well.
The player received approaches from Sheffield United and Hertha Berlin, and turned both of them down.
Vlachodimos wants to stay at Benfica, where he’s a regular starter, and only clubs who fight for big things would make him change his mind.
A Bola makes it sound like the interest was in the very early stages, so it doesn’t seem like Sheffield United made an official bid for the goalkeeper.
Benfica paid only €2.4m to take him from Panathinaikos in 2018, and Transfermarkt now considers him to be worth €16m.
Sheffield United had Dean Henderson on loan from Manchester United in the past couple of years. The goalkeeper not only returned to Old Trafford this summer, but also signed a new five-year deal.
To replace him, Aaron Ramsdale was signed from Bournemouth.
