The end of Gedson Fernandes’ loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur seemed like something guaranteed a couple of weeks ago.
Reports from the English and Portuguese press both claimed the Benfica midfielder would be sent back to Lisbon, and even José Mourinho admitted the player wasn’t having a great time with Spurs.
However, a week into January, nothing has happened yet, and newspaper Record brings a story today claiming this return isn’t so close.
The outlet analyses the situation of several Benfica loanees, and when speaking of Gedson, they say the Eagles haven’t even contacted Tottenham to talk about the issue yet.
Record acknowledges that his situation must be sorted out and that he may leave Spurs, but makes it clear his exit isn’t that close.
Gedson Fernandes was loaned to Tottenham in a spell until the end of the season, with Spurs having an option to buy him for €50m. However, he was only used by José Mourinho once, in a League Cup match against Chelsea back in September.
