Anthony Martial’s summer could have gone a lot better.
Called up to Didier Deschamps’ squad for the 2016 Euros, the Manchester United forward barely had any impact throughout the tournament, starting the first game but subbed off at half time followed by a handful of appearances off the bench, including the final.
However, things appear to be on the up, at least according to Grégoire Margotton, commentator for TF1, who was at France’s training session as they prepared to face Belarus in their first World Cup qualifier.
He said: “During training, I saw an Anthony Martial like I’ve never seen him before. Like he wasn’t during the Euros. Yesterday, he was smiling loads, he was joking with everyone. He seems happy. He’s going to become a mainstay in this group of 23 players.”
Picking up his first international goal against Italy from a speculative Pogba through-ball, the player finally got off the mark this season, after a somewhat difficult start with Manchester United.
If a happy Martial means a prolific Martial, then Manchester United fans should be in for a treat when he gets back from international duty.
