Following Manchester City’s draw with Lyon this week, Pep Guardiola and his assistant were both seen talking to Houssem Aouar.
The Spaniards had been impressed by the youngster, and told him so. L’Equipe report the manager told the 20 year old midfielder to continue on the same path, and wished him luck for the future.
Afterwards he told France’s RMC: “He’s a very good player, an incredible player.”
Arteta was heard saying similar to people ‘in the corridors of the Groupama Stadium’.
Manchester City didn’t leave it there, explain L’Equipe, and it’s claimed that on Wednesday the club contacted the player’s entourage.
The player is represented by XL Sport, who are owned by the larger Wasserman group. The agency has good connections in the Premier League, making contact relatively easy.
Guardiola’s club wouldn’t have it all their own way, with it being explained Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea all hold an interest in the Lyon player.
Despite being on a contract until June 2023, the French newspaper believes it could be hard to keep him at the Ligue 1 club.
