Making important moves during the January transfer window by bringing in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan while sending Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United, Arsène Wenger showed he isn’t quite done with Arsenal just yet.
Such investment from the board suggest they still have a lot of respect for the Frenchman, who remains in charge of pretty much everything at the Emirates (even if he’s receiving some extra help these days), and that’s what Le10 Sport are reporting.
The French website claim on Monday that whether or not Wenger remains in charge next season is solely up to him, as the board will not fire him.
Were he to step down from his role in the summer and allow someone else to take over for the 2018-19 campaign, the decision would therefore be a mutual one.
This means that a meeting will take place in the coming months, most likely a bit later on in the season, to work out what will happen.
Of course, this isn’t stopping the club from still working on the post-Wenger era, but if he does decide to continue his Arsenal era until the end of his contract (in 2019), whatever they have planned might need to be delayed.
