Last week, Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva was linked with a move back to Benfica.

There was quite a bit of optimism that the transfer could happen and contact is already in place.

A Bola today report further about the Manchester City star’s future and they believe that negotiations are indeed progressing to bring the midfielder back to Portugal in the summer.

The outlet states that initial negotiations have been held and with the ‘foundations laid’, the Portugal international has also held talks with Benfica about a switch.

The Portuguese giants see Bernardo Silva as a symbol for the club and he isn’t just seen as a target because of a sporting objective, but also for an emotional purpose.

The 30-year-old, who has now spent eight years at Manchester City, is seen as a replacement for Angel Di Maria.

The report believes that even though there is still a long way to go for the move to fully materialise, the possibility is rising.

Bernardo Silva’s current contract at the Etihad runs out in the summer of 2026 and that can make it easier for Benfica to land him.
