Martin Dubravka’s former Žilina teammate Dusan Kuciak believes the Newcastle United loanee is helping Slovak goalkeepers get recognition.
Dubravka joined Newcastle United on loan in the January window and was a key player helping Rafael’s Bentiez’s team retain their Premier League status.
Speaking to Sport.sk, Kuciak was asked about the impact Dubravka has made since arriving in England: “He’s made a good name for himself in England and makes a good name for other Slovak goalkeepers. Especially younger players, who will have it easier going abroad.
“It was also a problem for us we did not have such a top goalie as the Czechs have with Petr Cech, who helped them very much.”
Dubravka is contracted to return to his parent club Sparta Prague this summer, but the Slovakia international has indicated he would like to remain at Newcastle United.
Speaking to the Chronicle this week he said: “I would like to, of course. It’s a huge club with a great history, amazing fans and quality players. We will see what’s going to happen.”
With the contribution he made for Newcastle United in the six months he was at the club it’s likely the St James faithful will want a permanent deal to be sealed for the 29 year old this summer.
The Slovakian made 12 Premier League appearances for the Magpies last season.
