For a player who spent most of his youth playing in France, Ishak Belfodil’s professional career interestingly has mostly taken place in Italy.
The young forward, who now plays for Standard Liege in Belgium, spent a season on loan at Bologna from Lyon, and then transferred to Parma, staying in Italy until 2015.
The 24-year-old was a much wanted talent in his youth, so much so a Premier League team were very keen on acquiring his services after the 2013 season.
In a profile of the player on their website, DH mention the player had the opportunity to go to either Juventus, Arsenal or Inter Milan, and he ultimately chose the latter.
He said last year: “It was an offer I couldn’t refuse, but it was hard for me. It wasn’t in the best conditions because the new coach (at the time Walter Mazzarri) had his own ideas.”
Moving for €10m + Antonio Cassano, the then 21-year-old flopped, and quickly went on loan to Livorno, which didn’t go much better.
As is often the case, we find ourselves with a great young talent, who, under the right circumstances, could have had a different career.
Would a move to Arsenal instead of Inter have made a difference? We’ll never know.
