Gregoire Defrel is on the verge of being named a Roma player, with Corriere della Sera reporting he could even be set to join the club on preseason in the US.
Roma will be paying Sassuolo €20m plus bonuses, which is more than they wanted to, and there’s every chance Leicester City were strongly linked in order to pressure the Serie A club.
With it being repeatedly reported in the Italian media that Leicester held an interest, and even claimed last week the club had made an offer, Roma were perhaps put under artificial pressure and the Foxes may have been used.
Another Leicester City transfer unlikely to happen is Riyad Mahrez to Roma. Corriere della Sera report the rumoured price of €50m is simply way too high for the Italian club, and therefore a deal won’t be happening.
Roma’s Monchi has been in London this week for transfer talks with the club’s US owners, and that’s encouraged links to Premier League players.
But, unless Leicester City decide to accept a lot less than €50m, Riyad Mahrez isn’t going to AS Roma.
