Even though Atalanta know the difficulty they’ll have when facing Liverpool in the Europa League quarterfinals, they aren’t giving up just yet.
Gianluca Di Marzio today features some quotes from Gianluca Scamacca, who was interviewed by Sky Italia about the clash.
The centre-forward made it clear that Atalanta can beat Liverpool and get qualification, and highlighted his team’s quality.
“I think that Atalanta can beat anyone and that they can compete with anyone. We will absolutely go there to compete and to try to get through to the next round,” he said.
“Liverpool is one of the strongest teams in Europe, it is full of strengths.”
When Liverpool fans see Scamacca on the pitch, they may recall his time at West Ham.
The Hammers only had him for one season, as they signed him for €28.5m from Sassuolo in the summer of 2022 and ended up selling him an year later, with him joining Atalanta for €25.5m. In his time at the London side, he had eight goals and 27 assists.
Those are not awful numbers, and there’s not a big difference for his current season at Atalanta, which is actually getting some praise. He currently has 11 goals and three assists in 32 appearances for the Italian side, and is ready to put up a fight against Liverpool.
