Feyenoord general manager Dennis te Kloese has revealed how Newcastle United sent a delegation to the club four months ago before deciding whether to do business with them.

The Feyenoord boss has been speaking to Voetbal International about their transfer plans this summer and how they deal with loan players and a need to improve on that front. He’s taken inspiration from the Magpies and their approach to loaning players out.

Feyenoord have only made one loan transfer so far this summer, signing youngster Yankuba Minteh on loan from Newcastle until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old only joined the Magpies from Odense in an €8m deal earlier this summer but they have immediately rented him out to the Dutch champions to continue his development in the Netherlands this season.

The move was done almost immediately after his arrival at St James’ Park, suggesting that it had been in the pipeline for some time.

Te Kloese has confirmed as much, detailing how Newcastle sent an entourage out to Feyenoord months ago before sanctioning the deal.

“It wasn’t as easy as it seems,” he said.

“Newcastle United came here four months ago to see if Feyenoord is even a club they wanted to work with. I think we can take it as an example.

“When Minteh reports to us for the first training, people from Newcastle come along to help him on his way. Maybe extreme, but we did almost nothing.”
