A month ago, we covered the father of Barcelona youngster Ilaix Moriba claiming his son could have left the Camp Nou side to sign for Manchester City.
At a time when there were difficulties to find a renewal with the Catalan club, he had an invite to join Pep Guardiola’s side, but ended up giving up and staying in Spain.
Now it turns out that he had an offer from Chelsea as well, once again according to his father.
Mamady Moriba was interviewed today by SER Catalunya show Què t’hi jugues!, and when speaking of the contract situation, he recalled all the clubs who’d been interested in the teenager.
“City, Chelsea and Juve had stronger offers than Barça. With City we canceled the trip the same day. I visited all their facilities, but we decided to stay at Barça,” he said (via La Vanguardia).
“He could go to England or Italy, but he wanted to stay at Barça. He told me that he wants to succeed here, he didn’t want to go anywhere else.”
Moriba signed that three-year extension back in 2019. Now the player’s contract with Barcelona expires next year, but his father claims they’re not rushing to get a renewal.
“We have no hurry. The future depends on the club. We are happy here and we are very happy for the opportunity they gave my son. We want to continue here, if Barça want him.”
With ten appearances for Barcelona this season, the 18-year-old is starting to get minutes to show his potential, and that playing time is surely weighing on his wish to stay at the club.
