Chelsea Timo Werner will not be used as part of a swap deal for Atlético Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

That’s according to BILD, who say a swap deal for the Spanish midfielder is ‘not an issue’ at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are believed to be in the race for Saul, who has been linked with a move away from Atlético all summer after falling down the pecking order last season.

It’s believed they are working on a deal, and it had been reported in England that they could offer Werner in a swap deal with the Spanish side to make it happen.

BILD say that won’t be the case, though. According to their information, a swap for Werner ‘is not an issue’, and those responsible at the club have made it clear Werner is a part of their plans.

They insist that the German will not actually be used as competition for Romelu Lukaku this season but behind him instead.

That means he is a part of Thomas Tuchel’s plans, and Saul is instead set to ‘come on loan’ instead.

We’re assuming that BILD mean he will be used out wide rather than as a number ten, given that would make little sense for Chelsea as they have Kai Havertz and Mason Mount for that position already.

Either way, though, it seems they have no intention of letting Werner go, and so any suggestion he’s part of a swap deal is wide of the mark.
