The Galician edition of AS today doesn’t exactly sound too thrilled on behalf of Celta Vigo with the impending signing of Wesley Hoedt.
Celta had been expecting to sign Jairo Riedewald on loan from Crystal Palace, but the talks collapsed and he’s potentially now moving to Betis instead.
In their headline, AS point out Hoedt hasn’t played for Southampton in two months, and they go on to say he won’t arrive with match rhythm, which may be a problem because he’ll be expected to go straight into the team.
It’s explained the player was a regular starter as the season began and then found himself on the bench and ultimately watching from the stands.
The reasoning for this is that, with Hoedt, Southampton were simply conceding far too many goals, with AS saying it was an average of almost two per match. Without him, the average is down to around one and a half.
Whilst they do point out he’s tall, the plus they could find, AS aren’t really encouraging excitement among Celta Vigo fans.
