If there’s one day most Arsenal fans will want to forget, it’s their 8-2 loss to Manchester United back in August 2011.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men completely dismantled the Gunners in a shocking scoreline, with everything they did turning to gold, as Wayne Rooney walked away with a hat-trick and Ashley Young bagged a brace.

It was a very low point for the London side, which Wenger sought to address with a number of signings, eventually leading his team to a third spot in the Premier League and qualifying them for the Champions League.

The game was a bad day for the players too, as Laurent Koscielny and Johan Djourou were completely unable to handle Manchester United’s attack, and it left its mark on the French centre-back.

Speaking to France Football this week, the defender was asked about a game to remember and a game to forget in his career.

You might have already guessed what the latter is.

He said: “My worst game, probably the 8-2 in Manchester against United, with Arsenal, two days before the end of the summer transfer window. We played with players who were on the verge of leaving and Manchester United had a 100% success rate on each shot. We completely missed the game”.
