Ever since Inter Milan were taken over by the Suning Group, dreams of a great transfer have been plastered all over the Italian media, with Alexis Sanchez normally the frontrunner.
However, since the arrival of Gabriel Jesus at Manchester City, and the apparent demotion of Sergio Agüero to the Etihad bench, the Argentinean appears to now be the number one target, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Slowly but surely climbing back up the Serie A table, the Nerazzurri are only five points behind third placed Roma as things stand, and with their current form and 15 games left in the season, they could very creep into a Champions League slot if either Roma or Napoli slip up a few times in the coming weeks.
Qualifying for Europe’s elite club competition would be a necessary requirement in order to convince the Manchester City star to join them, but Inter Milan are also trying to use a special card in their sleeve called Javier Zanetti.
The Inter Milan legend knows Agüero very well, and Corriere dello Sport reckon the strong Argentina contingent at San Siro (Icardi, Palacio, Carrizo, Ansaldi and Banega) could be a decisive factor in his decision.
Having never played in Serie A, Corriere also reckon Agüero would be attracted by the challenge of dominating a new league, having already done so in Spain and England.
As for the money, the Suning Group’s backing should cover the player’s wages and the transfer fee from Manchester City, expected to be rather large considering his contract with Guardiola’s side runs until 2020.
If you ask us, this is a very good exercise in ‘convincing oneself this has a chance of happening’ from Corriere dello Sport, and they’ve done a good job, to be honest.
Our bet, if Agüero does leave City, which remains unlikely even with his little ‘rest period’, is a return to Spain.
