Everton have been linked with a move for Aaron Ramsey for over a year, with the Italian media dutifully looking for a new home as Juventus look to pass the Welshman’s wages over to someone else.
Ramsey arrived at the Turin club as a free agent in 2019, after Arsenal withdrew their renewal offer. He was subsequently given a huge salary, and that contract has been the source of repeat regret for the Serie A side.
The midfielder has often been unavailable due to injury, and hasn’t impressed enough when he was been fit and played.
Newcastle United were thrown into the hat alongside Everton recently, and it may be that the Magpies would find it easier to finance a deal. Ramsey has shown no sign of wanting to leave his big wages behind him, with a contract at Juventus lasting until June 2023.
Il Bianconero report Everton have made a ‘poll’, which will mean tentative contact to see the chances of a signing. However, it’s made clear that the approach ‘failed’, and it’s ‘impossible’ for the Toffees to match what Ramsey currently earns at Juventus.
The same will be true for other clubs, so if the Welshman won’t take a pay cut, Juventus will have to consider subsidising his wages if they really want to see the back of him.
