Antonio Rudiger finds himself in what is usually a strong position contractually.

He currently plays as a starter for the Premier League leaders, who just so happen to also be the Champions League holders, and has a contract expiring at the end of the current season.

Chelsea have been working on a renewal for the Germany international, but haven’t been able to tie him down yet. For the 28-year-old it will clearly be a matter of the size and length of the contract on offer, and he knows he’ll get approaches from elsewhere.

However, many clubs around Europe continue to seriously struggle with their finances due to Covid-19, and the wage offers won’t be quite as high as they may have been a couple of years ago.

Gazzetta dello Sport report Inter Milan have considered the Chelsea defender, and even made some sort of contact, but what Rudiger is asking for is ‘beyond what is allowed’ at the Serie A side.

He’s simply requesting too high a salary, and Gazzetta say Inter Milan won’t be making any efforts to meet his demands.

That’s one less club for Chelsea to worry about.
