Besiktas are continuing their efforts to sign Cenk Tosun from Everton, with his wages seemingly the major stumbling block to any move.

The Turkish striker has been heavily linked with a return to his homeland this month and added fuel to that fire earlier this week when he made it clear he would happily re-join Besiktas if they can reach an agreement with Everton.

The Super Lig side have been working on a deal since then and, according to FotoMac, have now reached an agreement for it to happen.

They state that Besiktas efforts are 99% focused on Tosun at this moment in time and there is ‘joy’ in the negotiations.

According to their information, Besiktas’ management have reached an agreement with Everton to loan Tosun until the end of the season, paying half of his wages but no rental fee, which means around €625,000 in total.

They present things in a very positive light, with Besiktas chief Erdal Torunoğulları also insisting they are working on a deal.

“Cenk Tosun is the son of this house. He is the son of Besiktas community. It is a very important value for us and Turkish football,” he said.

“We are currently working to solve the financial situation, I think we will eliminate the problems. We will continue to work for Besiktas for the best and for the better.”

NTV Spor dispute this somewhat, though, and say that a deal isn’t there as of yet. They argue that while Besiktas have ‘accelerated’ their efforts, they have only just started talks with Everton.

The Toffees are only willing to sanction a loan deal if the Turkish side pay all of Tosun €1.25m wages until the end of the season but Besiktas only want to pay half.

However, it was made clear in the last meeting between the two parties that it’ll only happen if the Super Lig team accept Everton’s conditions. Therefore, it seems both are apart at this moment in time.

Haber 3, though, have something different and say, via former Besiktas player Ertem Şener, that Tosun is on his way to CSKA Moscow.

“Cenk Tosun will go to CSKA Moscow on loan,” they report him saying.

“If there is no big surprise, Cenk Tosun will go to CSKA Moscow from Everton on loan.

“We can say that Cenk Tosun, the former football player of Besiktas, from Everton, has agreed with CSKA Moscow on every issue.”

All in all, it’s a bit of a mess at this moment in time. FotoMac’s report is the newest of the three so the inclination is to believe them, particularly as it’s the closest to what was widely being said throughout yesterday.

It would be surprising to see Tosun turn down his old club to go to Russia, but, at the same time, there is little logic in Everton sanctioning a deal in which they pay half of his wages.

Unless the Blues have someone lined up to replace the striker that is a bad deal on several fronts, so expect more of a push on the financial front before this is agreed.
