Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic is set to be given his final chance at the club before a sale in the summer, with Everton lurking in the background.
Marca explain that with Karim Benzema suffering from an injury complaint, the club don’t want to risk making things worse and so will use him sparingly.
Carlo Ancelotti is aware that his side depend on the Frenchman, particularly in the Champions League, and so will instead give final chances to Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz up front.
The pair have barely featured under the Italian this season, with Ancelotti even using Luka Modric in the position at one point, a ‘clear message’ that he didn’t trust the other pair.
Now the pair could ‘play a role’ in Ancelotti’s plans before the end of the season, in what will be their last chance to prove they have a future at the Bernabeu.
At the moment, the prospects are better for Mariano than Jovic, who failed to prove his worth earlier this season.
Ancelotti created a space in the squad for him at the beginning of the campaign, but that was ‘short-lived’ and ‘something broke’ between the Italian and the striker, and since then, he has ‘disappeared completely’.
Benzema’s injury complaint is his last chance to prove a point, a situation Everton are likely to be keeping an eye on.
They’ve been named among the suitors for Jovic for several months, with it explained back in January that Frank Lampard is keen.
Since then, it’s been explained that they have a good chance of getting their man in the summer, with the latest reports making it clear that Lampard wants the Serbian as part of a ‘complete renovation’ at Everton.
Those chances will be diminished if he can prove himself to Ancelotti before the end of the season, although the prospects of that happening seem slim at this moment in time.
