Why Everton are after another attacking midfielder is simply beyond us, but, according to Calciomercato, they want to bring in Josip Ilicic from Atalanta.
Now, before you scoff at the source, it is worth pointing out that this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a report of the Toffees taking an interest in the 30-year-old.
Back in June, local newspaper Corriere Fiorentino, when the player was still at Fiorentina, claimed Everton were present in Milan through one of their scouts, Carlo Jacomuzzi, and talked had been arranged with Pantaleo Corvino, the club’s director of football.
Clearly nothing came from that meeting, as the attacking midfielder subsequently moved to Atalanta, yet it appears Steve Walsh hasn’t given up on seeing him represent the Toffees.
With 11 goals and eight assists in 31 games, Ilicic is clearly still producing the goods, and while his new side probably wouldn’t be all that keen in seeing him go, they could easily be swayed if they knew they could make a profit with a sale.
It’s worth keeping an eye on, that’s for sure.
