Here’s a small blast from the not so distant past for Tottenham fans: Iago Falqué.

The Spanish winger, who arrived from Juventus for a minimal (around £900k) in 2012, never really made it at White Hart Lane, and after a spate of loans at clubs like Southampton, Almeria and Rayo Vallecano, a sale to Genoa was sorted out.

Managing to kickstart his career again in Italy, the now 28-year-old has since been transferred twice more, from Genoa to Roma and then from Roma to Torino last January.

Finding a new lease of life under Walter Mazzarri in Turin, Falqué was interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport was briefly asked about his spell at Tottenham, and his answer was as candid as it could have been.

He said: “Tottenham was the wrong choice. I looked at the money and not the sporting challenge. I saw the ugliest part of the game there: I was just a number, zero consideration. But that also made me stronger”.

During his time with Spurs, Falqué made just 11 appearances, five of which came in the Europa League, totalling just 455 minutes of first-team football in three and a half years.

However, with three goals and three assists in his last seven games for Torino, things are looking up, and Tottenham is just a blip in what has become a relatively successful career for the Spaniard.
