Everton’s Richarlison is missing tonight’s Brazil game against Paraguay and could be out of the rest of Copa America, according to the local media.
Globo Esporte reports that the player was diagnosed with mumps on Thursday morning, and has now been isolated from the rest of the squad.
Richarlison had been examined after complaining about pain and a swollen neck. After the diagnosis, he’s set to fully rest and should not have any contact with his teammates.
Since the player had been working normally until Wednesday, the Brazilian national team now fear the virus could affect other players as well.
It’s said that the risk of other athletes being infected ‘exists’. The website adds that the recommendation is for ‘vaccination and a follow-up by the medical department to identify any possible symptoms’.
Globo Esporte claims that the national team will follow Richarlison’s recovery process before deciding if he should stay or leave the squad.
The Everton player must be isolated for between three and five days. In case Brazil beat Paraguay tonight, he would miss the trip to Belo Horizonte for the semifinal, since they would be flying on Friday.
