Everton star Richarlison is always making people laugh. And it hasn’t been any different this time, in his press conference for the Brazilian national team in London.
The player was asked about the difficulties he had in his childhood, and how could he overcome all that then become such a good footballer.
“For having a difficult time in my childhood, I think that besides going through a difficult time, I was very focused on football,” Richarlison said.
“I don’t think anything got in my way. I just wanted to know about football, I did’t want to know about working in another area. At school, too, I was not doing well, let’s put it this way.
“Just so you can have an idea, I failed in arts. And at the time it was my uncle who taught me. And then I said ‘oh, I’m not going to do anything, he’s my uncle, he’s going to pass me’. Then the end of the year came and he failed me. But it’s like I said, I’m a guy very focused on football and in my childhood I just wanted to know about football.”
The story was obviously enough for all journalists and Barcelona midfielder Arthur to have a good laugh in the press room. Then, in a more serious question, Richarlison was asked about the importance of playing under Marco Silva again.
“Oh, I think Marco Silva is a guy who is always with the athletes. When the athletes have difficulty in something, in marking or closing the pass line, he is always calling to his room, showing videos.
“The other day I spent more than 40 minutes in his room there to see what I have to improve, to see I have to cut the pass line, because here the Premier League demands a lot of it. So it’s a guy who is always helping me, helping my teammates.
“And now I’m also learning English, it’s making it easier, because now he is not speaking Portuguese anymore, only English. So that helps me a lot even to talk to my teammates.”
“And comparing to Tite, they are two fathers to me, because they’re always helping me, so I do’t have any bad thing to say, they are two very good people who know everything about football.”
