Everton are continuing to watch Benfica, with an official at the 0-0 draw with Porto on Friday evening, report A Bola, after also watching the 6-0 victory over Setubal last week.

It’s exciting in one way, because Benfica have some good players, and slightly terrifying in another, because the Benfica player most linked with Everton is Raul Jimenez. The club were said to have offered €45m for the striker in the summer, an amount which was jaw-droppingly refused, and there’s been repeated claims since.

Everton need a striker and Jimenez was more highly rated earlier in his career, but so far this season he’s scored 0 league goals for Benfica, partly because he rarely gets picked, last season he managed 7.

The 26 year old is someone Benfica feel they can cash in on, having seen a big offer come in from China. The player didn’t want the Chinese move and no other club has so far offered enough.

Jimenez didn’t start against Benfica, didn’t score, and only got 6 minutes. Signing the Mexican would be a commercial boost, but a huge gamble on the pitch.

Other players on show who were linked with Everton in the summer were Yacine Brahimi, one of Porto’s best players last night, and Benfica’s Andreas Samaris, who came on in the second half.

Porto’s two fullbacks, Ricardo Pereira on the right, and Alex Telles on the left, are becoming prime for a transfer.
