Everton are interested in a deal for Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller but face competition from Newcastle United.
That’s according to SportBILD journalist Christian Falk, who says that both Premier League sides ‘want’ the 32-year-old forward.
Muller is out of contract with Bayern Munich in 2023 and is yet to sign an extension to his deal with the German giants, who he’s been with since joining their under 17 side in 2004.
That means a decision will have to be made regarding his future in the summer, with Bayern facing the prospect of losing him on a free the following summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
There has been no mention of a transfer away from the club up to this point, but Falk says there is interest in the German’s signature.
He reports that both Everton and Newcastle want the Germany star, although he doesn’t mention if they’re eyeing a deal this month or in the summer.
We’ll assume it’s the latter, given it would be a major move for either club and difficult to get done in the final days of the January window.
Indeed, we’re inclined to take this story with a huge pinch of salt given Muller’s status and how big a drop down it would be from Bayern Munich to Everton or Newcastle, even at this stage of his career.
The Magpies can at least offer him huge wages as a temptation, but how Everton could get a deal done is anyone’s guess given the state of their finances. They’re both apparently keen, though, at least according to Falk.
