Last Friday and Saturday, Catalan newspaper Sport insisted on pushing Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen to Everton.
It didn’t make sense because Marco Silva has the services of Jordan Pickford, new signing Jonas Lössl and 36-year-old Maarten Stekelenburg as the three goalkeepers for next season.
Two days ago, we carried a report from Mundo Deportivo, who explained sources from the Merseyside club have told them the reports linking the Netherlands international with move to Goodison Park are “nonsense”.
On June 18th, multiple reports in Spain suggested the 30-year-old is expected to join Valencia, and Neto will move in the opposite direction.
The same day, Sport came up with another report and suggested the La Liga winners are ‘waiting’ for a ‘final offer’ from Everton for the Dutchman, even though the deal was advanced with Valencia.
In today’s edition of Sport, they claim Barca and Valencia have found an agreement for a swap deal involving Cillessen and Neto and the two keepers must now negotiate personal terms for the deal to take shape.
With a deal close, Sport are still unwilling to let go of Cillessen’s links to the Premier League club as Everton are once again dragged into the mix.
It’s claimed that Silva’s side ‘met the economic demands’, but they needed time to close the operation.
Why? Because the English club were waiting to offload Pickford before making an approach for Cillessen.
This allowed Valencia to take the lead in signing the Barca player, who is edging closer towards joining them.
Sport, for reasons only known to them, are unwilling to let go of their stance of pushing Cillessen to Everton, even though they claim the two La Liga sides have already found an agreement for the Dutch goalkeeper’s transfer.
