At the weekend, we covered claims from Paris that Everton are seriously interested in Thomas Meunier.
The Toffees were said to have made a contractual offer to the PSG fullback, and had ‘accelerated’ their efforts ahead of other interested clubs. Manchester United were named, as they usually are, and also Arsenal.
Now Le10 Sport report Atletico Madrid are ‘ready to make an offer’, but it depends on what happens when Meunier speaks to his current club. The Belgium international has spoken of a desire to stay where he is, but it’s thought PSG would quite like a sale.
The same report says Everton are ‘highly interested’ and have ‘already sent him a proposal’, which would echo the previous claims.
Earlier this week, Meunier spoke to RTBF in Belgium and said: “At the level of rumours, I am quoted everywhere. Only beautiful clubs are named. Manchester United, Juve, Dortmund, these are just exceptional clubs.”
That doesn’t sound great for Everton.
However, in April of last year he said: “I could aim at a club like Everton, Valencia or Dortmund. Michy Batshuayi did really well going there, the fun is playing football, and that’s the only thing I miss right now.”
If interest from the Merseyside club is genuine then they may first need to wait and see what happens at the PSG meeting, and then if any of the other clubs make a serious move.
