Rumours linking the Goodison Park club to Allan have certainly helped alleviate concerns as it points towards work being put behind the scenes to address the situation, and now another name is being brought up, this time by the Danish media.
According to Ekstra Bladet, Everton ‘should be in the game’ to try and sign Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, who appears to be on his way out at Southampton.
With one year left on his contract, this will be the last chance to cash in on the former Bayern Munich player, and they are asking for a considerable fee.
The Danish newspaper state the Saints will ask for ‘no less than £35m’, and add there will be strong competition from Tottenham, who are ‘certain’ to ‘try and pick up’ his services this summer.
Everton have certainly spent such an amount on players in the past if they think he is the right man, and the Denmark international has shown he is a more than capable passer and has adapted to the Premier League well.
It makes a fair amount of sense, and at 24 years of age (still) he fits in the young and ambitious rebuild Everton are trying to put together under Marcel Brands and Ancelotti.
