Last week, we covered stories from France suggesting Everton were considering keeping Djibril Sidibé, but hadn’t really planned to spend €17m in the post-Covid-19 market on a right-back.
That’s why L’Equipe suggested they would try to get AS Monaco to extend the loan to have him around for Carlo Ancelotti’s full first season in charge.
However, should that fail, they have a backup plan going by the name of Bouna Sarr.
The Marseille former winger, who now operates as an attacking full-back with the Ligue 1 side, is being ‘followed’ by the Toffees, according to La Provence, but, and it’s an important one, should they purchase a player in the role, they’d like someone ‘a bit younger’.
The local newspaper state the French club, who bought him for €1.5m from Metz five years ago, would want ‘at least’ 10 times their original expenditure to let him leave, and ‘maybe even a bit more’.
That places him in the same price range as Djibril Sidibé, but he is a year older and has never played in the Premier League before.
Other interested clubs are named as Wolfsburg in Germany, as well as Atlético Madrid, Sevilla and Real Betis in Spain.
It’s certainly something worth keeping in mind, but it does feel like extending the AS Monaco loanee around is the smarter move here, at least when it comes knowing what your money is paying for.
After all, Sarr could take time to adapt to the rigours of English football.
Sidibé is already there.
