Everton remain the ‘main candidate’ to sign Denzel Dumfries this summer but are facing potential competition from Inter Milan.
That’s according to Eindhoven Dagblad, who cover the player today and Everton’s reported interest in him.
They report that Dumfries was ‘already in the spotlight’ at Everton before his star performance in the Netherlands win over Ukraine at the European Championship.
They would ‘like to acquire him’ in this window, and there is a belief that Marcel Brands ‘can meet his demands’ and take him to Goodison Park.
The Blues, then, remain the ‘main candidate’ to secure the full-back’s signature, but there is interest from Italy in the form of Inter Milan, who also have him ‘on the radar’, something which the newspaper has confirmed via Italian sources.
Dumfries’ agent Mino Raiola is aware of the interest and ‘looks at the options’ in the current window before making a decision.
He will work on a deal, and PSV Eindhoven are willing to sanction a departure for around €15m.
That’s a price the likes of Everton can afford to pay but ED state that the Blues will ‘probably’ have to make some changes in their squad before they can attract Dumfries to the club. In other words, it’s felt they need to sell to buy.
Dumfries, therefore, may have to be ‘patient’ if he wants to move to the Premier League this summer.
It also means that there is space for another club, such as Inter Milan, to ‘cycle through’ Everton’s plans and beat them to the defender, particularly after he ‘launched himself’ at the Euros.
