Unless you’ve been living under a very large rock, you’ll be aware of Manchester United’s interest in Raphaël Varane.

It’s been well documented in Spain, and with the Red Devils are looking for a new partner for Harry Maguire, the Frenchman fits the mould perfectly.

His performance against Germany on Tuesday night only reinforced his status as one of the best centre-backs around, and Varane is looking for a new adventure away from Real Madrid.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain appear to be the two clubs in the race to get him, who want to take advantage of the fact the Frenchman only has one year left on his contract.

AS cover the situation on Wednesday, stating that Real Madrid are hoping the Euros help increase his price, wanting to get around €60m for their man.

The Red Devils and the Ligue 1 side ‘are the two teams to have shown the most interest’, although ‘neither have made a firm offer’ as of yet.

All they’ve done is ‘approach the player’s entourage’, with the football ‘seeing with good eyes both destination’ even if ‘right now, Paris are the favourite’.

Madrid are now ‘waiting for a phone call from the player’s agency with an offer’, although ‘that could take some time to happen’, since everyone will know Varane will be fully focused on the task currently at hand: helping France go as far as possible in the international tournament.
